What is Eyelid Surgery?
Are you struggling with excess upper eyelid skin and puffy bags under your eyes? Not only can these make you look old and tired, but they often times even cause vision problems. Removal of the excess skin and fat pads – in a procedure known as eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty – will give you back that youthful, refreshed look you’ve been yearning for.
If you’re interested in learning more about the procedure, we are happy to set up a consultation for you, where we’ll give you a better idea of eyelid surgery costs for your individual needs. If you’re still unsure this surgery is for you, please browse some eyelid surgery before and after pictures to help facilitate your decision.
How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?
The procedure will vary based upon your decision to have upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery – both. For the upper eyelids, an incision is made in the natural crease of the eyelid and the excess skin and fat will be removed.
For lower eyelid surgery, the incision is made either at the lash line or inside the eyelids and excess fat is removed from that portion of the eye. This surgery is best for those who want to reduce under-eye puffiness. In either case, eyelid surgery will be performed using local or general anesthesia.
Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
Most of our patients in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and the surrounding areas are above the age of 50. However, we have treated many younger patients who were unhappy with the look of their aging eyes. Additionally, both men and women can benefit from this surgery. So, if you’re tired of bags, excessive wrinkles or excess skin around the upper or lower eyelids, blepharoplasty may be right for you.
What Kind of Post-Operative Eyelid Surgery Care Can I Expect?
After the procedure, you’ll be advised to apply cold compresses to the eyes to reduce swelling and bruising. You should also keep your head elevated at all times, even when you’re sleeping. Other normal side effects include tearing, blurred vision and sensitivity to light, which all should disappear within a few weeks.
Do not wear makeup or contact lenses for at least two weeks following the procedure, and stay out of the sun as much as possible. You’ll be prescribed eye drops to treat any itching, burning or dryness, and your doctor will go over specific instructions on how to properly care for your eyes. Finally, you should not drive until your vision has completely returned to normal, and you should avoid any strenuous physical activity for at least a month.
What are the Typical Results of Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery can turn tired eyes into bright, youthful and refreshed ones. Just as the patients in these eyelid surgery before and after pictures did, you’ll be able to bid adieu to bags, puffiness and wrinkles that cause you to look older than you feel.
What are Miami Eyelid Surgery Costs?
Depending on the type of eyelid surgery you choose, eyelid surgery costs will vary. Your surgeon will discuss all your options and goals with you during your one-on-one consultation, coming up with an individualized plan to help you meet them.
